Agri-Ambassadors

The Agri-Ambassador organization is a select group of agriculture students chosen to represent the university at conferences, conventions, contests, high schools and junior colleges.  Their sole responsibility is to encourage high school and junior college students to attend SFASU.  This can be a difficult job, there are many universities to choose from within the state of Texas.

This year, the ambassadors attended National FFA Convention, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and Texas FFA Convention, where they spent a week at each event encouraging future attendance at SFASU.  They also worked at several contests and conventions held on campus where they were able to make direct contact with thousands of students.  “Showing off” the university at events hosted on campus is a great recruiting tool.

Throughout the year, the ambassadors work with the Admissions office to communicate with students who have shown interest in attending the university.  The ambassadors send out letters and postcards to all prospective and admitted students interested in majoring in agriculture.  Two times a year, phone calls are made to help answer any questions  potential students have about the Agriculture Department.  Within the last year, the ambassadors made contact with approximately 4,000 potential students.

As you can see the Agri-Ambassadors stay busy--- recruiting is full time.  All of the ambassadors are not only busy recruiting for the department; they also are involved in numerous other organizations on campus and must maintain a high GPA.
