Dr. David Creech


Dr. Dave Creech, Regents Professor of Horticulture, has been at Stephen F. Austin State University since September, 1978.  He received his BSc from Texas A&M University in 1970, his MSc from Colorado State University in 1972, and his PhD from Texas A&M University in 1978.  His teaching responsibilities include a wide range of courses in fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals.  His recent research effort has focused on nursery production strategies, new plant materials, salinity tolerance in baldcypress, and blueberry germplasm evaluation.  He is the author of numerous scholarly and trade articles and lectures widely.  Dr. Creech has enjoyed numerous international consultancies since 1981 to Pakistan, Guatemala, Nepal, Israel, Mexico and China. Dr. Creech was President, 1991-1992, of the Native Plant Society of Texas, an 1800 member, 31-chapter organization dedicated to the conservation, selection and use of the native plants of Texas. He is Director of the 10-acre SFA Mast Arboretum, 8-acre Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden, and the 40-acre Pineywoods Native Plant Center.  All three are on-campus garden resources that have enjoyed steady growth, development, programming, utilization and visitation.  Come and visit!
