Text Box:                  Dr. Michael Maurer was raised in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California where he received his B.S. degree in Plant Science (1985) and M.S. degree in Agricultural Science (1989) from California State University, Fresno. Dr. Maurer received his Ph.D. in Horticulture (1994) from the University of Florida. Upon graduation, Dr. Maurer was employed at the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension as an Extension Agent in Maricopa County (1994-1999). Dr. Maurer joined the Plant and Soil Science Department at Texas Tech University in 1999 as an Assistant Professor of Horticulture / Turfgrass Science.  Dr. Maurer joined the faculty of the Department of Agriculture at SFA in the Fall of 2006.
             Dr. Maurer’s primary teaching responsibilities are Principles of Horticulture, Turfgrass Science, and Irrigation.  Dr. Maurer’s research has focused on  water use efficiency (subsurface drip irrigation), development of low water use turfgrasses (buffalo grass) and evaluation of herbicides for turfgrass.
