The Sigma Alpha Sorority at Stephen F. Austin State University began its development period in September of 1997. Twenty-seven Sigma Alpha chapters are located at colleges and universities across the country. The sorority exists to promote women in agriculture and to strengthen the bonds of friendship among them. Members strive for achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Sigma Alpha is the perfect atmosphere for women with agricultural and environmental interests to develop lasting relationships amongst themselves and with professionals in the agricultural industry.
Sigma Alpha chapters sponsor seminars and exhibits providing interaction with students, faculty, and professionals within the agricultural field. Functions include personal gatherings, sporting events, fund-raising activities, formal dinners and dances, and diverse community service and philanthropy projects.
